After last week's IT attack and shutdown of the systems, Kalix municipality's staff has managed to clean up and get system up and running.

"A real slap in the face"

At lunchtime on Thursday, the systems related to home care and home health care were started and the municipal management sees this as a great victory.

- It feels very positive.

Like we gave those who attack us a real slap in the face and it feels good, says municipal director Maria Henriksson.

But the IT systems require municipal personal computers and there the municipality has suffered a new setback.

Lack of computers

Of the approximately 600 computers, a third, up to 200 computers are too old and cannot handle new operating systems.

- They are so old that it is impossible to print them clean and push new programs into them.

They need to be replaced in order for us to increase security, but there is a problem with that.

We know that there is a shortage of computers and the delivery time has been five to six months.

There is a lack of components there as well, says Maria Henriksson.

She believes that a new way of thinking and major investments are needed when it comes to the municipality's personal computers.

- They must also be replaced, just as we change leasing cars every three years, she says.

Priority list ready

Kalix municipality has now produced a priority list for personal computers.

- Right now, it is important to clean and get the computers up and running in the health care and home care service.

During the holidays, we should also get the financial systems and personnel systems up and running during the holidays, but we must take it in turn.

In any case, I am happy that it is going so well, says Maria Henriksson.
