The reason why SJ has canceled so many trains is said to be staff shortages and high sickness absence.

Uppsala is one of the affected sections and on Thursday morning, several travelers noticed the problems.

- I was going to Gothenburg, but have had to rebook my ticket four times.

It is clear that it is difficult, says Marianne Helander.

SJ believes that the traffic situation looks better before the Christmas weekend, but that canceled departures may occur, among other things, 16 departures between Uppsala and Stockholm are canceled on Christmas Eve.

- It has been a concern for us and our customers that not all trains have been able to run and above all that we had to cancel departures at short notice and not informed in a good way.

But now the conditions look better, we are more at work and expect that all trains that we are planning for right now will be run, says Jan Kyrk, business manager at SJ.

How many trains do you plan to run?

- We expect that everyone who wants to travel between, for example, Uppsala and Stockholm will find a train to travel with.

On other routes we have pulled in some long-distance trains, but then the other long-distance trains are twice as long so it is the same capacity.

People will probably find a place if you are a little fast, there are many who want to travel over Christmas and New Year, says Jan Kyrk.

The police strengthen preparedness

The big travel day also means increased car traffic.

The police in the Central region are aware of this and have increased preparedness.

- We work with visibility and are placed on motorways to monitor, it usually makes motorists slow down.

Then we also have civilian cars out.

On this particular day, all traffic police officers must be on duty, because together with midsummer, it is the biggest travel day of the year, says Maria Rosander, traffic coordinator police region Mitt.
