The world's first mobile phone text message (SMS) was sold at an auction for 120 million won.

French auction house Aguit announced that at the auction on the 21st of local time, the first short message service issued by British mobile operator Vodafone as a non-fungible token NFT was sold for 107,000 euros, or about 140 million Korean won.

This text message is a 'Merry Christmas' text sent by Vodafone engineer Neil Fabworth to his colleague Richard Javies on December 3, 1992, using the 2kg cordless phone 'Orbitel'.

NFT is the world's only digital token that authenticates and grants ownership of a digital file by applying a block chain technology that cannot be forged or tampered with.

The world's first text message was reportedly sold to a Canadian working in information technology.

Vodafone will donate the proceeds of this auction to UNHCR.
