The Minister of Culture and Youth, Noura bint Mohammed Al Kaabi, confirmed that the Al Burda Festival, which concluded its second edition at Expo 2020 Dubai, yesterday, worked to highlight pivotal concepts in the march of the renaissance of traditional and contemporary Islamic arts, noting that the festival organized under the slogan " Spaces for Crossing… Worlds of Discovery”, celebrates Islamic creativity in its various manifestations, starting with traditional methods of expression, ending with exploring its future disciplines that combine digital technology, culture and society, in the categories of classical and Nabataean poetry, formation, calligraphy and design, providing a platform for the creation of new forms of knowledge, Foster global dialogue on diversity, tolerance and coexistence.

Noura Al Kaabi said that the Al Burda Festival, which was organized under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, "worked to highlight several concepts, the first of which is the transformation that deals with the changing concepts of Islamic culture and arts, and the second is the discovery by realizing the transformative power of Islamic arts and culture, and the third Meditation on the values ​​of interdependence and tolerance reflected in Islamic culture and arts, and fourthly, the development in awareness of the new voices in the field of Islamic culture and arts, which are waiting to be heard on the global scene.

She added about the Al-Burda Award in particular, that "the common concepts that Islamic culture needs in a civilized renaissance qualifies it once again to resume its exceptional role throughout history, through the transformation in which the nation's authentic past offers a sustainable future for the Arab and Islamic nation and humanity, by discovering our strengths with the voice of moderation, moderation and the diplomacy of our Islamic culture." And the Minister of Culture and Youth continued: "We celebrated Islamic decoration, Arabic calligraphy, Nabati or classical poetry, and design arts, and honored the sister Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, as a guest of honor, in celebration of its essential role in supporting and spreading Islamic culture and arts, and we received about 1,557 creative submissions, which were attracted by the Al Burda Award from More than 56 countries around the world, and since its inception, has celebrated more than 300 artists worldwide in the colors of Islamic arts and its main fields.

Al Burda Festival and Award contributed to building and activating sectoral and professional partnerships with representatives of the Islamic culture and arts sectors from several countries, including Australia, Canada, France, Britain, the United States of America, Switzerland, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Kuwait, Bahrain, Jordan, Pakistan and Italy.

The festival witnessed 57 sessions and performances with the participation of 200 experts in the main sessions, and 150 participants in the Council of Ideas, in addition to screenings of documentaries, feature films and cartoon films for children. His past is familiar with arts, aesthetics, and authentic Arab and Islamic heritage.

The festival, which was organized by the Ministry of Culture and Youth in partnership with 29 strategic partners, discussed in dialogue sessions that hosted international thought leaders in the field of Islamic arts and culture, core topics, and provided new visions on the latest trends and ideas that shape the future.

In the session on the global character of Islamic culture and arts, the Deputy Minister of Culture in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Hamed bin Muhammad Al-Fayez, highlighted the global values ​​of Islamic culture and arts, and the role they play in promoting exchange between civilizations, in addition to the historical importance of Islamic culture and arts, and the current role of the economy. Islamic culture as a catalyst for economic innovation.

While the session “A Different Path: Changing Beliefs About the Islamic Identity” raised a number of questions and perceptions about the nature of the Islamic artistic identity.

The session on Islamic spaces between the past and the present discussed the development of cities, and how historical Islamic spaces were taken into account, as architects and urban planners re-design them, revitalize these landmarks and repurpose them in a new narrative.

A New Worlds Through Poetry session explored the nature of the current landscape of literature in the Islamic world, and how to preserve the importance of literature as a fundamental pillar of culture.

While the Ideas Council discussed dialogues and discussions on the main topics that intersect with traditions, cultural heritage, advanced technology, entrepreneurship, and authentic Islamic arts and culture.

During the festival, which was attended by 3,780 visitors, performances and films inspired by the Islamic world were organized, telling inspiring stories rooted in the history of the region, targeting audiences of different interests and age groups, including children, and included a group of animations, documentaries, and feature films. In addition, the festival celebrated Islamic decoration, Arabic calligraphy, Nabati or classical poetry, and design arts.

The Ministry of Culture and Youth announced the names of the winners of the 16th Al Burda Award, at an artistic evening that celebrated Islamic arts at the Dubai Exhibition Center at Expo 2020 Dubai.

The award consists of six different categories: classical poetry, Nabati poetry, traditional calligraphy, modern calligraphy, ornamentation, and typographic design.
