Ras Al Khaimah Hospital reported that more than 10,000 people from different regions of the country have registered, wishing to participate in the 10-week weight loss challenge, starting from December 17, explaining that 51% of them registered their desire to participate in realistic weight loss, while 49% of them registered By default, in cooperation with the Ministry of Health and Community Protection.

He explained that a study conducted by the Ministry of Health and Community Protection during the past years on the nature of nutrition in the country showed that 33% of married women, 40.4% of married men in the UAE are overweight, and 38% of married women are obese, compared to 15.8% of married men.

The Executive Director of Ras Al Khaimah Hospital, Dr. Reda Siddiq, said that the hospital expected to receive three thousand participants in the challenge, but the number of participants exceeded three times the number, which constitutes an incentive to lose weight and maintain the health of the participants, and an incentive to win the challenge, pointing out that the number of participants proves the awareness of the residents of the state. He explained that the challenge is divided into two categories, and a man and a woman will have the opportunity to win cash prizes of 500 dirhams for every kilogram they lose in the physical challenge category, while the average weight lost by the institutional teams is calculated and prizes are presented on this basis, and the competition will give the winners of the virtual challenge special rewards that include vouchers For hotel stays, shopping and free medical check-ups.

He added that the challenge provides each participant with a weekly diet and exercise programs, as well as inviting them to attend weight loss webinars presented by a multidisciplinary team, a group of health experts and specialist doctors at Ras Al Khaimah Hospital.
