The PSE-EE

has materialized this afternoon the

second consecutive agreement with EH Bildu in Durango

that allows the nationalist coalition to reinforce

Ima Garrastatxu

,

mayor since 2019 thanks to the pact with Podemos

. The

two socialist councilors of Durango have abstained

for the first time in this legislature in the vote of the 2022 budgets. A political gesture that occurs just three days after

the socialist councilor Iñaki Arriola

and Garrastatxu announced a principle of agreement for modify the urban development in the 62,500 square meters in the center of the town released by the burying of the Euskotren roads.

The PSE-EE of

Eneko Andueza

has facilitated this afternoon for the first time with its abstention the approval of some budgets of EH Bildu. The pact visualizes the so-called

'left tripartite'

of which

the PNV

is left out

, the most voted party in 2019 with 8 councilors

. But the nationalists then lost this symbolic mayor's office in Bizkaia after closing a government agreement between the Abertzale coalition (7 councilors) and Elkarrekin Podemos (4 councilors). Durango is the city of Biscay where

the Lehendakari Iñigo Urkullu resides

and where

his daughter Malen Urkullu is councilor for the PNV

.

The Socialist councilors have agreed to 14 amendments worth 500,000 euros that allow, according to sources from the PSE-EE of Bizkaia,

"to improve the quality of life" of the almost 20,000 residents of the town

. The investments agreed by the socialists with EH Bildu include the first covering of a children's area in the town, the improvement of lighting in peripheral neighborhoods, measures to prevent violence against women, the Garai Jauregia study-project, a campaign for the energy savings, the launch of gastrobonds to encourage local hospitality or a campaign to prevent fraud against the elderly.

Mayor Ima Garrastatxu has highlighted on Radio Euskadi

the "effort" made by the representatives of the PSE-EE

by presenting proposals that allowed the start of negotiations. EH Bildu and Podemos have an absolute majority in Durango but the abertzale mayor has underlined her objective of achieving a

"broad consensus"

and has described this budget pact as a "good agreement".

The budget agreement comes just three days after Transport Minister Iñaki Arriola and Mayor Garrastatxu announced a preliminary agreement to redefine the nearly

65,000-square-meter development in the city center

. The space released to the railroad was generated after the launch in 2005 of the so-called 'Operation Durango', the burying of the Euskotren tracks that crossed the Biscayan municipality.

The project started in 2005 by the Lehendakari Ibarretxe and with the Durango mayor's office in the hands of the PNV was valued at

250 million euros and required another 31 million to carry out the urbanization

of the released land. The Basque Government designed an ambitious redevelopment with a

unique building for Euskotren

designed by Zara Hadid,

five towers of 18 heights

designed by internationally renowned architects, a

block of officially protected housing

, a

shopping gallery

and even

a church with premises and parish house

to the.

The

capital gains generated

by the sale of the land to enable the shopping center and the construction of the

554 floors

planned had to compensate for the public investment, an argument used by the counselor Arriola until last Friday. But EH Bildu and Podemos activated from the City Council the rejection of the project first with a

popular consultation

that, with a participation of 28.5% of the census, rejected almost unanimously the construction of the towers in March 2021 and taking the dispute to the courts.

The commitment reached last Friday assumes the

conditions of EH Bildu and Podemos

by eliminating the towers, the singular building and the commercial gallery and reducing the initially planned homes in this central space by a third.

The socialist councilor also guarantees the existence of a large public park in the area and the Town Hall compensates for the land transferred with municipal plots and in a future industrial park.
