With our correspondent in London,
Marie Boëda
Boris Johnson
is torn.
On the one hand, scientific advisers are pushing him to introduce new measures to deal with the Covid-19 pandemic.
And on the other side,
Conservative MPs oppose
any new restrictions because they refuse to restrict individual and collective freedoms.
So Boris Johnson spoke on the evening of Monday, December 20.
And for now, he's procrastinating.
"
We agree that we must now consult the data continuously, hour by hour,"
said the Prime Minister.
And unfortunately I must tell you that we must reserve the possibility of taking other measures to protect the public.
"
No new measures therefore, despite the 91,000 people tested positive on Monday alone.
Boris Johnson gives advice: open the windows during the Christmas dinner, get tested before and especially get vaccinated.
He is betting everything on the third dose.
His goal so far: to avoid canceling Christmas for the second year in a row.
We've got cases of Omicron surging across the country now and hospitalizations are rising quite steeply in London.
Please exercise caution.
Please get vaccinated.
