China News Service, December 20. According to Euronet, at 10 am local time on the 18th, a major accident occurred at a construction site on Genoa Street in Turin, Italy. A mobile crane suddenly collapsed and hit a residential building.

The accident resulted in the death of 3 workers who were under construction, and injuries to two passersby and one worker.

According to reports, at the time of the accident, two cranes on the construction site were repairing a 6-story residential building, and three construction workers were installing crane booms on platforms tens of meters high.

Suddenly, the crane boom collapsed and three workers fell to the ground from a height of several tens of meters. Two of the workers died on the spot, and one worker was sent to a doctor due to serious injuries. The rescue failed.

Preliminary investigation by the prosecutors revealed that of the three workers who died, two were from the province of Milan and one was from the province of Turin.

In addition, a passing vehicle was hit by a crane boom. The man sustained minor injuries and climbed out of the vehicle by himself.

Another passing woman and a worker were slightly injured when hit by the flying brick fragments.

The firefighters involved in the rescue said that the cause of the accident was mainly due to the structural failure at the bottom of the crane. It cannot be ruled out that the asphalt ground was crushed by the crane when the workers assembled the crane boom.

The police are conducting a detailed investigation.

The mayor of Turin, Loruso, said that this accident once again showed that construction safety is still a very important issue, and the government must take in-depth intervention measures to protect the safety of workers.

Workers’ safety, legality, and prevention of criminal infiltration will be the top priorities of the government’s work in the future.
