Ellinor Rydell was involved in starting the girls' initiative for Rögle hockey a number of years ago and now as many as 84 girls train in the club.

In previous years, as Rydell puts it, "trained, trained, trained but never played any games."

Those who competed have been allowed to do so with the boys' team.

Four teams so far

At present, the girls' hockey series is played in the older, middle and younger age groups.

Rögle, Helsingborg, Malmö and a merger between Frosta from Höör and Lund participate.

Many of the girls have previously competed with boys' teams and think it's fun to finally compete with other girls.

- You play with other girls who like the sport as much as yourself and then it is very fun to develop together, says Moa Nilsson who has trained hockey with Rögle since she was four years old.

Hoping for more teams

So far no more teams are registered for the series but the players hope that it can be bigger.

- It would have been fun if more girls' teams came to the series so that you have more teams to meet, thinks Mella Legnell in Rögle.

Ellinor Rydell believes that there is actually a great interest among girls to play hockey.

- If girls' hockey can be seen and the resources given, I think it can grow a lot.

This afternoon's match between Rögle and Helsingborg ended 5-0 to Rögle.
