It is on the airwaves of ORTM, the state television, that the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Mali, Abdoulaye Diop, spoke following

the decisions of the ECOWAS summit on Sunday.

It is first of all with relief because, at all times, the preoccupation of the President of the Transition, of the Prime Minister and of the whole government has been to work to avoid that additional sanctions can be imposed",

did he declare.

"The efforts that have been made to be able to explain to our ECOWAS partners the difficulty in which we find ourselves, but also the need to listen more to the Malians, to allow them to be part of all solutions, of our point of view, this message has been heard, ”

he added.

"

Alternative calendar

"

During the meeting, the West African heads of state demanded that the elections to mark the return to constitutional order be held as planned on February 27, while Bamako has already indicated that they would be postponed.

“

The fact that these measures have been postponed to allow Malians to go to the assizes and return to the regional community with a timetable, we believe that this is an important step.

The date of the 27th, which is reiterated in the press release of the conference of heads of state and government, is a position of principle of the organization.

In

my opinion, we must go beyond that, ”

said the Minister of Foreign Affairs.

But ECOWAS also granted additional time to the authorities of the Transition, to demonstrate their commitment in the preparation of these elections.

The objective today is to be able to really work on an alternative timetable",

concludes the Minister.
