December 17, 2021 In Galapagar (Madrid), the staff of Dia and the Udyco units of the Spanish National Police arrested the fugitive Gioacchino Gammino, included in the list of the most dangerous fugitives of the Ministry of the Interior.

The operations were coordinated by the Palermo District Prosecutor, personally followed by Francesco Lo Voi and the Assistant Prosecutor Paolo Guido, as well as with the collaboration of the International Police Cooperation Service of the Public Security Department.

The man is prejudiced for mafia-type association, murder and association aimed at illicit drug trafficking, and is allegedly affiliated with the stiddara family of the '' Ingaglio '' of Campobello di Licata (Ag). A family that, having allied itself with the Nissen Stidda, in the 90s of the last century had unleashed a long and bloody mafia war against the exponents of the historic mafia coterie Cosa Nostra, recording about 200 murders on both sides.

Gammino, was arrested for the first time in 1984, in the context of the `` Abbate +76 '' proceeding which subsequently resulted in the first maxi trial of the Cosa Nostra in Palermo, was investigated at the time by the investigating judge Giovanni Falcone for a matter linked to drug trafficking. In 1995 he was hit by an order of arrest in prison for mafia-type association for the aggravated murder of Giovanni Smiraglia and Salvatore Curto. Later he became a fugitive and was captured in Barcelona (Spain). On 11 February 1999 he was extradited to Italy at the

Rebibbia prison

from which he escaped on June 26, 2002 while shooting some scenes of a film. Inside the prison, an inmate climbed a wall screaming, fidgeting and refusing to get out. Gammino, taking advantage of the diversionary action, managed to escape by mingling with the flow of visitors who visited the detained relatives.

To the

capture of Gammino

this was achieved through a complex and articulated investigative activity carried out by the staff of the Anti-Mafia Investigation Department of Rome and Palermo which lasted over 2 years.

The fugitive is the nephew of Diego Ingaglio, killed in 1991 in Naro, in the province of Agrigento, a leading exponent already included in the Cosa Nostra, then '' escaped '' from the organization and promoted autonomous mafia groups, which, allied to each other , had given rise to that confederation of mafia clans called '' Stidda ''.

The European arrest warrant, issued on May 29, 2014, by the Public Prosecutor's Office at the Court of Agrigento, headed by Prosecutor Luigi Patronaggio, hung on the head of Gammino.
