Rasi: "We are seeing severe forms of Covid in children"

December 17, 2021 In 10 European countries (including Italy) 9,611 children needed hospitalization, while 640 ended up in intensive care
The Eurosurveillance numbers come from the European Center for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC): over 820,000 cases of children and young people (0-17 years) positive for Covid with symptoms were notified between August 2020 and October 2021 in 10 countries Europeans (Austria, Cyprus, Finland, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, Malta, Slovakia and Sweden). 9,611 (1.2%) needed hospitalization, 640 ended up in intensive care (equal to 0.08% of all positive children and 6.7% of hospitalized children), 84 died (0.01 %). One more reason to push on vaccinations in the 5-11 age group as the Covid emergency commissioner Francesco Figliuolo reiterated.
"Everyone acts according to their beliefs and conscience: today we also have good cases of this vaccine, there is a sure relationship between costs and benefits" reiterated the extraordinary commissioner for the Covid emergency, visiting the Meyer pediatric hospital of Florence talking about the vaccination campaign for children.
“But it is not I who must say these things - he added -, it must be the scientists and pediatricians.
There are no fixed objectives: our interest is to vaccinate and secure as many children as possible ”added General Figliuolo, explaining that yesterday 15,000 children were vaccinated nationwide, of which almost 1,000 in Tuscany.
