The governor believes that exemptions from biotope protection, in the case of cairns and gate openings, are necessary for agriculture to be able to continue to develop and contribute to the goals that exist for the food strategy, both regional and national.

Biotope protection counterproductive

According to the governor, there is an obvious threat that valuable agricultural land may be abandoned if it is not possible to make an exception from the biotope protection.

In a press release, he says that the biotope protection in its current form risks becoming counterproductive, in that precisely the habitats that are to be protected disappear if the arable land is no longer used.

Outings are welcomed by LRF

The governor's proposal is welcomed by LRF, the Swedish Farmers' Association.

LRF has long worked regionally to gain consensus on the general biotope protection regulations.

Attempts have also been made to bring about improvements that can be made in the application and processing.
