The number of electric scooters in use must be reduced from 25,000 to 12,000 and the lessors must apply for a permit to rent out the bicycles.

The previous plan to allow only three companies to rent electric scooters has been changed and now all of the eight companies that have applied for a permit will be allowed to rent 1,500 electric scooters each for a fee.

But it will require a lot from the actors to avoid the chaos that has prevailed before, says the city management.

If the companies do not keep order and remove broken bicycles and bicycles that obstruct other traffic, they will be shut down.

- They have to take care of themselves.

If they do not, they will not be on the city streets, says traffic councilor Daniel Helldén (MP), to Ekot.

The companies that rent out the bicycles are critical of the requirement for a permit and have appealed to the court.
