Klippanvägen will be extended to keep car traffic to, for example, the beach and the train station outside Ängelholm's most central city center.

But for this to become a reality, the controversial pedestrian and bicycle bridge Pyttebron over Rönneå needs to be demolished and replaced with a larger bridge, which accommodates both car, bicycle and pedestrian traffic.

In May 2021, the architectural competition was started, which has now decided the future of the bronze, and the municipality received a total of 44 grants.

The winner was announced on Thursday

Now the winner has been chosen.

The winning entry is called Himlavalvet and is a bridge in painted metal of rust red color with a high staircase that slopes over the bridge and which will form a vantage point over Ängelholm.

- It is an innovative bridge that also wants to bring with it the memory of Pyttebron, says Ängelholm municipality's city architect Pernilla Theseilus, who was part of the competition jury.

A staircase leads up to a lookout point above the car bridge.

- It has the potential to create memories and meeting places.

It was the human experience we wanted to get into the project, not just a connection for traffic.

Behind the winning entry are the Barcelona-based architectural firm Atelier entropic SL and the engineering firm Degree of freedom with offices in Valencia, Oslo and Athens.

Great resistance

The question of Pyttebron's future has been a hot political issue in Ängelholm for a long time.

In 2011, a referendum was held where the municipality's residents were allowed to say yes or no to the project.

The answer was a resounding no, but turnout was low and the political government chose to go ahead with the plans anyway.

But there is still opposition to removing the existing bridge.

No later than the end of November, a demonstration was held against the redevelopment plans, which Helsingborgs dagblad reported on.

The Social Democratic opposition has also promised to tear up the plans for Klippanvägen's extension if they win the 2022 election.
