A Saxon LKA official is said to have attacked a police officer who was involved in corona protests.

He was arrested, as the State Criminal Police Office announced on Thursday.

The official, who was traveling privately, had clashed with a riot policeman from Lower Saxony during a deployment to corona protests in Pirna (Saxon Switzerland-Eastern Ore Mountains district).

The Dresden public prosecutor's office is investigating assault on police officers.

The LKA also opened disciplinary proceedings after the incident last Monday and released the officer from his current duties.

Saxony's Interior Minister Roland Wöller (CDU) described the policeman's behavior as "inexcusable".

"If the accusation is so confirmed, the officer no longer has any business in the ranks of the police." The matter must now be fully clarified.

LKA President Sonja Penzel announced “considerable consequences”, but only listed the removal from service as an example.
