Omicron, a new strain of COVID-19, spread rapidly in the UK, resulting in about 90,000 new cases per day.



The UK government announced on the 16th local time that there were 88,376 new cases of COVID-19.



This is the largest record in history, with about 10,000 more people than the previous record of 78,610.



The death toll was 146, lower than the previous day.



The number of hospitalizations was 849 as of 12 days.



The cumulative number of confirmed cases in the UK is about 11.1 million.



An additional 1,691 cases of Omicron mutation infection were confirmed, bringing the total to 11,708 cases.



The vaccination rate as of 15 days is 89.3% for the 1st dose, 81.5% for the 2nd dose, and 44.3% for the booster shot or 3rd dose among the population over 12 years old.
