Councilor Eileen O'Sullivan of the Volt party had to pull many plugs when presenting the statistical yearbook for the past year

- and very often use the word "less". The politician reported minimal population growth in 2020 and a decline in the number of inhabitants in the current year: by the middle of the year there was a minus to under 750,000. And so it goes on: fewer employees subject to social security contributions, for the first time since 2009, far fewer visitors to cultural and leisure facilities, and local transport also lost passengers. The yearbook recorded a 25 percent drop in trade tax to 1.5 billion euros. In tourism there were around four million or 65 percent fewer guests.

It all has to get better soon, because Frankfurt still has so much to do.

For example, where Neckermann and Telekom had their headquarters in Ostend for a long time, a real estate company is soon planning to build a high-rise and apartments.

Until then, creative people and start-ups are using the area.

Is this what the future of work looks like? Alexander Jürgs and Marie-Luise Kolb looked at it in a great report for our regional business website.

And:

Actually, the debate about a skyscraper on Frankfurt's Opernplatz seemed to be over

. At the beginning of March, the city planning office had spoken out against a smaller tower diagonally across from the Alte Oper. Even a relatively low skyscraper with only 60 meters would shade the eastern part of the Opernplatz considerably in spring and autumn,

"when everyone is thirsting for the first or last rays of sunshine"

, said head of department Martin Hunscher at the time. That seemed to have cleared the subject. But the Signa company, which has acquired the area with the address “Opernplatz 2”, does not seem to have come to terms with this rejection. According to reports, it is still about a 60 meter high tower, which, however, would be moved as far south as possible on the building site along Neue Mainzer Straße. So in view of all these plans we just remain optimistic about the development of the city, it is a time of hope.

In addition

, the demand for vaccinations remains high, especially the third syringe for refreshment is in demand.

In order to provide a further offer, the vaccination express is fetched from the depot, where it was temporarily parked due to supply problems

a first step has been taken to make the unfortunate level crossing on Oeserstraße in Nied safer.

In the past two months, Deutsche Bahn has renewed the technical safety system so that the barriers no longer have to be closed manually by the railway staff

the job of the headmaster can be a fulfilling one.

But few teachers want to do the job.

Others prefer to stay what they are - and instead criticize the system;

Florentine Fritzen visited some of them.

Many greetings from the editorial team,
