The Sharjah Book Authority has announced the selection of Italy as the guest of honor for the 41st session of the Sharjah International Book Fair, which will start in November 2022. It links the Emirates with Italy, and in appreciation of Italy's role in the renaissance of arts, literature and sciences worldwide.

The announcement came during a meeting between the Chairman of the Sharjah Book Authority, Ahmed bin Rakkad Al Ameri, and the Italian Ambassador to the UAE, Nicola Linear, during which they discussed cultural relations and the coordination of joint efforts between Sharjah and Italian cities in the field of organizing book fairs and cultural events.

Al Ameri said: "By choosing Italy, Sharjah receives the guest of honor of the symbols of Italian art and literature, to embody a contemporary cultural and civilized dialogue that expresses the vision of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, towards building bridges of cultural communication between countries and civilizations of the world. And promoting the values ​​of human commons through knowledge, art and literature.

He added: "The cultural and civilizational relations between the UAE and Italy are historical, and go back to an early age when the Silk Road was a bridge linking the cultures of the world, extending from the East to Morocco, where the UAE was an important station for Italian merchants, and what was the choice of Italy as the guest of honor for the 41st session of the Sharjah International Book Fair." , except to confirm the depth of these cultural relations, and in appreciation of what Italy offered to knowledge and human art.”
