December 15, 2021 The magistrates of the Council of State elect the president Filippo Patroni Griffi as the new constitutional judge. He will take the place of Giancarlo Coraggio, president of the Consulta, who will leave the Court at the end of January due to the expiry of his nine-year term.



Born in Naples on August 27, 1955, Patroni Griffi has two children.



He carries out classical studies in Naples at the Liceo Umberto and, in 1977, he graduated with honors in law at the University of Naples. Following public competitions, he became ordinary magistrate in 1979, referendum of the regional administrative court in 1984 and since 1985 he has been a State Councilor. In 2009 he was appointed president of the section. At the Council of State he performed the functions in all the jurisdictional and consultative sections.



Former deputy president, titular president of the Fourth section and director of the maximum studies and administrative justice training office, he was appointed president of the State Council by decree of the President of the Republic of 25 September 2018.



He was a member of the Commission in charge of drafting the code of the administrative process. He has been a speaker several times in seminars between Supreme Courts and Councils of State of the European Union and at the OECD. Since May 2021 he has been president of ACA-Europe, Association of Councils of State and Supreme Administrative Courts.



Member of the Scientific Committee of various legal journals, he is the author of essays on public organization, corruption prevention, administrative justice, sources of law, quality of regulation.



He was Minister for Public Administration in the Monti Government and Undersecretary to the Presidency of the Letta Government Council.



In the past he held the positions of coordinator of the Nucleus for the simplification of rules and procedures, Head of the Legal and Legislative Affairs Department of the Presidency of the Council in the Prodi Government,


general secretary of the Guarantor for the protection of personal data and member of the Independent Commission for Evaluation and Transparency (Civit).



He was head of the Cabinet of Ministers Amato (Institutional Reforms) and Brunetta (Public Function) and head of the Legislative Office of Ministers for the public service Cassese, Frattini, Motzo, Bassanini.

He is president of the Naples Theater - National Theater and vice president Svimez, Association for the Development of Southern Italy.
