• Andalusian Citizen Primary: a lot of institutional power and a party in tatters

The general coordinator of Ciudadanos en Andalucía and vice president of the Board, Juan Marín, will be the

candidate of the liberal party for the Board

in the 2022 regional elections. Marín has obtained 58.3% of the votes of the affiliates in the election held between yesterday Monday and today Tuesday, a process that has developed in a surprisingly rarefied climate between accusations of foul play and threats of impeachment.

A total of

2,589 militants

of Ciudadanos en Andalucía had been summoned, through a telematic voting system, to choose the candidate for the Presidency of the Board among the

nine candidates

who have finally participated in the process.

The election, designed in an express format and called just a week ago, had been planned from the beginning almost as

a mere procedure,

given that Marín had the support of the management of Inés Arrimadas and that the Minister of Equality and Social Policies,

Rocío Ruiz,

one of the references for the critical sector, had resigned to appear.

However, the decision of the party's Guarantees Committee to exclude deputy Fran Carrillo from the list of candidates for not being up

to date with the fees

that senior officials have to pay, managed to shake up the atmosphere and questioned the cleanliness of the competition. Carrillo finally deposited the 4,000 euros demanded of him in the organization's accounts and obtained the approval of the guarantee committee to continue in the contest. But the damage to Ciudadanos' image had already been done, after accusing the leadership of Inés Arrimadas of blackmail and extortion.

Complaints against the management of the process have not only reached the Citizens' leadership since the candidacy of Fran Carrillo. Other candidates such as Carmen Almagro have also regretted that the election was held

in the middle of the

Constitution

holiday bridge

and without prior notice. The party had been arguing in recent months that there would be no primaries until there was a formal date for the elections in Andalusia. However, Inés Arrimadas herself advanced days before the announcement that the party wanted the process to be held before the end of the year was known.

Citizens announced from one day to the next, on Monday, December 7, the opening of the term for the presentation of candidacies, for which two days were enabled: December 8 and 9.

For the campaign, the days 10, 11 and 12 were indicated, while the voting would be on December 13 and 14.

In other words,

in a week

, the process has been resolved, at least provisionally, since some of the applicants have already threatened challenges.
