December 13, 2021 The president of Tunisia, Kais Saied, extended the suspension of Parliament, decided in July, until the legislative elections of December 17, 2022.

In a speech to the nation, Saied also announced the start of a series of Popular "consultations" on constitutional and electoral reforms which will then be submitted to a referendum on 25 July 2022. The national consultation will start online from 1 January to 20 March 2022 with specific questions and data protection. Further direct consultations will take place throughout Tunisia and abroad.

A commission whose members will be appointed later will formalize the people's proposals by the end of June 2022. On July 25, 2022, a referendum will be held on the proposals that will be summarized.

The president said that a decree will also be passed on a national reconciliation law that will make it possible to classify the parties involved and the regions most in need of investment.

The principle, according to the president, is that those who have committed crimes against the Tunisian state and its people will have to be prosecuted by justice which will have to play its role in maximum independence and neutrality to restore the rights of the robbed people.
