The contest, organized by Bodega Valduero and the Complutense University of Madrid, was attended by the prestigious Spanish painter Antonio López.

The winery thus puts the finishing touch to a year in which its prestigious Valduero 12 years 2001 has been named one of "The Magnificent 7", that is, it is considered by Fine, an icon of Central European luxury, one of the best wines of the world.

The Prince of Asturias Award described this type of event for emerging artists as "very positive": "The beginnings are always hard and any help is very good."

Yolanda García Viadero, from Bodegas Valduero, recalled that the painter was a member of his membership club La Tenada de Valduero, "we admire him and are deeply grateful."

This year's jury has been chaired by the great painter and sculptor Don Antonio López, who has been accompanied by Don Francisco Leiro, painter and sculptor;

Doña Elena Blanch, Dean of the Faculty of Fine Arts of the UCM;

Mrs. Margarita González, Vice Dean of Culture of the Faculty of Fine Arts, Mr. Óscar Vázquez deputy director of Antena3 Noticias and Ms. Yolanda and Ms. Carolina García Viadero, Councilors of Bodegas Valduero and Mr. Gregorio García President of Bodegas Valduero.

This year two first prizes have been awarded, one in the Sculpture category to the work "

Forces

", by Rafael Simón from 4th year of Fine Arts, and another in the Painting category to the work "

Harvest, jolgorio y fraternidad

", by the author Mora Romero from 3rd year of Fine Arts.

Both have been awarded a scholarship to study a year of the Master at the Faculty of Fine Arts of the UCM.

The second prize has been for Edith Giraud, a 4th year undergraduate student, put her work "

The life of wine

" and consists of paying the tuition for a full undergraduate course at the Faculty of Fine Arts of the UCM

Finally, the third prize was endowed with the opening of an account for the purchase of material for an amount of 700 in the artistic materials store Artetres.

The winning work has been "

You can sit down

" and its artist Jesús Vázquez, a doctoral student.

His work will become part of the collection of works of the Faculty of Fine Arts of the Complutense University.

For Carolina García Viadero, "it is exciting to contemplate the works of art that the students of the Faculty of Fine Arts of the UCM".

As he explained, the participating artists "transform the barrels into fabulous pieces and create with enthusiasm and ingenuity" so for Valduero "it is fabulous to be able to reward that effort."

It has been a prestigious winery for six years and the Faculty of Fine Arts have collaborated in the celebration of this contest, as part of a program in which Valduero intends to support art and influence the idea that wine is part of our culture.
