The United Nations has honored the UAE government for its active role in government development within the United Nations Public Service Awards, which represents the highest award for government administration in the world, in a new achievement for the country.

The special honor came in appreciation of the UAE’s achievements in the areas of government development, building the new generation of future governments, and its global role in exchanging knowledge in the areas of government modernization with many countries, with the aim of enhancing the efficiency of governments and improving the lives of societies. Al Gergawi stressed that honoring the UAE government from the United Nations reflects its pioneering position, which it has achieved, under the directives of His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the State, and the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, and the follow-up His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces.

He said: "The honor reflects the leadership of the UAE and its superiority in government performance, and the development of a flexible model based on developing proactive services, enhancing efficiency and raising competitiveness."

Al Gergawi also stressed that “honoring the UAE government from the United Nations represents an international testimony to the development that the UAE has reached in developing the government work system, advanced performance in various fields and sectors, and a forward-looking leadership for the future, whose vision is based on developing proactive and future services, and the honor reflects great appreciation.” For its role in redesigning government work on the basis of development, enhancing readiness and digital transformation, he said: "We are proud of an exceptional leadership that has made the UAE a global model in government development, a global reference in management and future institutional thought, and a center for developing best government practices and enhancing efficiency and performance."

Al Gergawi thanked the United Nations for honoring the UAE government, stressing the importance of the organization's role in advancing countries, governments and people, stressing the government's keenness to strengthen fruitful partnerships with the organization, due to its belief in the importance of meaningful international cooperation to ensure a better future for humanity.

For her part, Catherine Pollard praised the experiences of the UAE government, and the advanced models it has developed in the fields of public service, noting that the special honor reflects the high appreciation of the United Nations for the efforts and initiatives of the UAE government, its exceptional model in government work, and its effective partnership with countries and international organizations to exchange knowledge and share Of experience.

"We are meeting at the first United Nations Public Service Awards ceremony since the beginning of the pandemic, an occasion to thank government employees everywhere for their continued work, and to pay tribute to the inspiring initiatives that resulted from their innovations and commitment to enhancing the delivery of public services to achieve sustainable development," Pollard said.

Honoring the UAE government from the United Nations reflects the country’s achievements in terms of government development. The UAE government has launched strategic partnerships in government modernization within the government knowledge exchange program, with nine countries around the world, which witnessed the completion of 241 initiatives in more than 55 work fields, and rehabilitation 290,000 employees and trainees, through nearly three million training hours, and 565 workshops.

The UAE government ranked first regionally and 21 globally in the e-government survey 2020, and ranked third globally in the government response to change indicator, and fourth in the long-term government vision indicator in the Global Competitiveness Report 2020 issued by the World Economic Forum, and ranked third globally in terms of Trust in government in the 2021 Edelman Trust Scale.

The government accelerators developed by the UAE government - in an initiative that is the first of its kind globally, which adopts acceleration of achievement and innovation of proactive solutions to challenges - has become a focus of knowledge partnerships.

The UAE government also launched the World Government Summit, which is the largest global platform for government officials and experts in the fields of foresight and future industry.
