Afghanistan: no US military sanctioned after civilian deaths in Kabul strike

No sanctions against the US military involved in a drone strike that killed ten civilians in Afghanistan in August during the US evacuation.

The Pentagon believes there was no breach.

Pentagon spokesman John Kirby admits the decision is not going to please everyone.

However, he asserts that there are not enough elements requiring "

 to retain personal responsibilities 

".

In other words, no soldier will be sanctioned or held responsible.

 What happened was not the result of negligence, rule violation, or mismanagement

,” says John Kirby.

The decision comes after an investigation and report by senior Defense Ministry officials tasked with reviewing what happened on August 29.

When the US military carried out a raid that it said targeted a vehicle carrying explosives.

More and more criticism of drone strikes

A version contradicted

, video in support, by the

New York Times,

which reveals that in reality, ten civilians including seven children were killed.

The Pentagon then spoke of a " 

tragic error 

".

The raid took place the day after the attack on Kabul airport which claimed the lives of 85 people, including 13 American soldiers.

Strikes of this kind are increasingly singled out.

Last month, the Defense Secretary had to order an investigation into airstrikes against Islamic State in Syria.

And this after the press revealed that many civilians had been killed.
