Mateusz Morawiecki, the Polish Prime Minister, did not hesitate to speak of a "
new chapter in Polish-German relations
", welcoming the fact that Poland is one of the first countries visited by the Chancellor.
A visit during which Warsaw wished to reaffirm its position on the sensitive issue of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline which is to link Russia to Germany.
"
I made the Chancellor aware of the nature of the risks associated with its opening,
" assured Mateusz Morawiecki, adding that he did not want Ukraine to be blackmailed by Russia.
For his part, the German Chancellor expressed concern about the movement of troops along the Ukrainian border, urging not to violate the borders of Europe.
A German government frowned upon in Poland
A few hours before this visit, the Polish daily
Gazeta Wyborcza
wondered if this would be a cold shower for Olaf Scholz.
Because a few days ago, a member of the Polish government accused Germany of wanting to transform Europe into a Fourth Reich.
The new German government is expected to be less conciliatory on the issue of the rule of law, a point of contention between Warsaw and Brussels.
"
I hope that the discussions between the European Commission and Poland will lead to a pragmatic solution
", indicated Sunday evening Olaf Scholz, recalling the democratic values of the European Union.
