The gangs' biggest source of income is drug sales.

According to the Central Association for Alcohol and Drug Information (CAN), this is a billion-dollar industry - only in Sweden.

After the police's digital interception of the communication program Encrochat, it is estimated that in Sweden alone just over 150 tonnes of drugs are sold per year, which is according to customs ten times more than previously estimated.

Of this, just over 75 percent is cannabis.

- What gives money is what you do, says Amir Rostami.

According to Rostami, drugs are the main source of income, but also fraud.

- We have probably more or less missed that source what effect it has.

It has an annual turnover of SEK 2 billion in criminal profits.

M and S want higher penalties for the sellers

According to the police, there are several places in Sweden today where drugs are sold completely openly.

Around these places, shootings are also more common.

- We have about 60 places with open drug sales in Stockholm, says Mia-Maria Magnusson who is a police officer and doctoral student at Malmö University.

S wants to increase the penalties for those who sell drugs.

For users, they do not want to increase the penalties or decriminalize the practice.

- It is good that you have sanctions for them, but that you can also follow up with care interventions, says Morgan Johansson (S).

M, like S, wants to increase the penalties for drug dealers but not for buyers.

- We have pointed to upwards of ten years in prison for those who sell drugs, says Johan Forssell.

L: Direct police resources towards salespeople

The Left Party wants to decriminalize the mill.

- It is about prioritizing the work of the police.

I want to prioritize the tonnes that are smuggled in instead of the grams that are used, says Linda Snecker (V).

Nor does L want to increase the penalties for users, but direct the police resources towards sellers.

- The important thing is that it is forbidden to use drugs, says Johan Pehrson.

Agree that customs should be strengthened

One way to reduce drug trafficking is to strengthen tariffs.

That is what all parties mean.

M wants 500 more customs officials and round-the-clock surveillance.

S also wants to invest money in the customs operations, but says that further investments are needed.

Johan Pehrson (L) emphasizes that European cooperation should be expanded.

- That individuals have cocaine or heroin is difficult to stop hermetically.
