Peru Pedro Castillo overcomes the opposition's first check by only six votes
The president of the
Foreign Relations Commission of the Peruvian Congress, Ernesto Bus fully,
expressed his formal protest this Sunday at the alleged "mistreatment and interference in internal affairs" of a deputy from
Podemos
who had "lied" about the recent visit of a delegation of the Peruvian Parliament to Spain.
Through an official letter sent to the head of the Foreign Affairs Commission of the Spanish Congress of Deputies,
Pau Marí-Klose,
Bustamante criticized the Podemos deputy
Antón Gómez-Reino
for "falsely" accusing the president of the Peruvian Congress,
María del Carmen Alva,
for having asked the Spanish deputies to rule on the "illegitimacy" of the
Pedro Castillo government.
This in the midst of the controversy unleashed in Peru after a journalistic investigation revealed
alleged offensive expressions by Alva towards Castillo
during his tour of Spain in early December.
In the document, Busdamente details that Gómez-Reino "expressed evaluative judgments in an aggressive and contentious tone" during Alva's intervention and that, after the visit, the Spanish deputy "attacked" the president of Congress with various "falsehoods."
Last Friday, without wanting to go into many details, the Podemos deputy told
TV Peru
that Alva had given an unusual statement, "frankly worrying and shocking" for expressing "terms of democratic questioning" in his country.
According to Busdamente, however, what the president of Congress did at the meeting was "to explain the tense internal political situation" in Peru "for the benefit and knowledge of the Spanish colleagues present."
"If the deputy Gómez-Reino
has hearing or
language
comprehension problems
, this does not authorize him to lie," the congressman sentenced.
In addition, it condemns that, after the meeting, the Spanish deputy presented an
initiative to the Congress of Deputies
in order to urge his country to express a position of support for Castillo's management.
According to the text that Gómez-Reino himself shared on social networks, this so-called "non-law proposal" is proposed that the Chamber of Deputies undertake "all the political and diplomatic actions within its reach to support the democratic institutionality in Peru and publicly promote respect for the popular will expressed democratically at the polls. "
This proposal, according to Busdamente, ratifies the deputy’s intention to "meddle in internal issues in Peru" and to treat the South American country "as if it were a colony and not a sovereign and independent nation."
Given this, the parliamentarian of the Fujimori party
Fuerza Popular
warned his Spanish counterpart that, if the initiative is approved, it would be a "transgression of international law and the rules of good behavior between friendly countries."
"You will see that - in addition to seriously damaging the relations between the parliaments of Spain and Peru - perhaps it will be up to Peruvians to speak out in the media on issues such as
Catalonia,
the
Basque Country,
the Royalty of Spain or even
Gibraltar," he
threatened.
As a result of the controversy generated by this meeting in
Madrid,
the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Peru reported this Sunday in a statement that it has requested "official information" from its Embassy in Spain and assured that it will act under the principle of transparency and will account for what happened.
