The barn owl is one of the world's largest owls.

The length can be up to 70 centimeters and the wingspan 135-160 centimeters.

As the name suggests, it usually lives in northern Sweden, but in sorrel-rich years it can move south.

Hundreds of spectators on site

Maybe it was the snow or the voles or both, because on Saturday a barn owl was sitting in one of the trees at Kungsgatan in Malmö.

And the birdwatchers were not late to flock to watch and maybe get a new cross in their lists.

- When I walked by, there were probably about a hundred there and watching, says Lasse Flygare.

- I looked up in the tree and there sat an owl as big as a cat.

Vulnerable species

In total, there are about 800 adult barn owls in Sweden.

This means that the species is red-listed and is considered vulnerable.

A couple of the threats against it are the lack of settlements when forests are felled and the trade in rare species and their eggs.
