Selling warships and then being "grabbed" by the United States?

France: deal with Greece has been concluded

The incident of the United States "grabbing" the Australian submarine order from France is going to happen again?

According to a report by French TV 24 on December 11, the US government announced on the 10th local time that it had approved the sale of frigates to Greece, which would pose a challenge to the deal reached between France and Greece in September.

But France immediately responded that the deal between France and Greece had been concluded.

According to reports, the US-approved transaction involves four Lockheed Martin combat frigates, valued at US$6.9 billion (approximately RMB 43.9 billion).

Just 10 weeks ago, Greece and France signed a memorandum of understanding on similar transactions.

In addition, the United States has approved a project to upgrade Greece’s MEKO-class frigate, valued at 2.5 billion U.S. dollars.

The French military immediately announced on December 11 that Greece had just signed a contract for the purchase of three French frigates, and that "the U.S. offer is no longer on the (negotiation) table."

On September 15 this year, the United States, the United Kingdom and Australia announced the establishment of a new trilateral security partnership called "AUKUS". The United States and Britain will support the Australian Navy to establish a nuclear submarine force. Australia has cancelled the conventional submarine construction agreement reached with France. .

France subsequently announced the recall of its ambassadors to the United States and Australia.

Immediately at the end of September, France and Greece signed a memorandum of understanding. Greece will purchase three frigates from France, with the option to purchase a fourth one. The warship is expected to be delivered in 2024.

According to the memorandum of understanding, the two parties must reach a final agreement before the end of this year.
