On the eve of the summit of ECOWAS heads of state, the communal stage of the “National Refoundation Assizes” opened this Saturday, December 11 in Mali.

These consultations, which will continue until December 30 through regional and national stages, aim to decide on a possible extension of the transition and to discuss the priority reforms to be applied in the country.

In the town halls or the multipurpose rooms of a majority of the localities of Mali, notables as well as ordinary citizens gathered early this Saturday for the first day of the communal meetings of the refoundation.

In total, 538 municipalities were "

 recognized as practicable and safe

" out of the 749 identified by the organizing committee.

Over several stages and until December 30, recommendations on thirteen themes ranging from defense to security through education and political and institutional issues will be collected.

One way for the transitional government to "

initiate a real process of refounding Mali

".

According to him, the conclusions of this forum will serve as a tool to establish a detailed timetable for the next deadlines including those planned for elections.

Boycotts and blockades

However, beyond the principle, the method is criticized.

Several parties and organizations declined the invitation, such as the coordination of movements and sympathizers of Imam Dicko who decided to boycott this meeting.

She declares that she has not been consulted and denounces in a

 press

release "

the clanism of the transitional authorities

 ".

For its part, the strategic framework which brings together armed groups signatory to the Algiers accords criticizes a unilateral approach, while some of its members are in government.

Finally, the grouping of political parties for a successful transition indicates that it was not heard on the establishment of an electoral calendar before the start of these meetings.

In their eyes, this constitutes a blocking point for their participation.
