When asked by journalists why the head of state rejected the idea of deploying an American military contingent on the territory of Ukraine in the event of a Russian invasion, he noted that this option had never been considered.

Biden recalled that he had informed his colleague Vladimir Putin about sending the US Armed Forces, if necessary, to the countries of the Bucharest Nine (B9) on the eastern flank of NATO.

"We will have to send more American and NATO troops to the eastern flank, B9 - all those NATO countries in respect of which we have a sacred obligation to protect them from any attack from Russia," TASS quotes the US president.

White House press secretary Jen Psaki on Saturday, December 11, said that Washington is still interested in diplomatic cooperation in the context of the situation around Ukraine.

According to her, the US approach is to involve all interested parties in solving the situation.

Earlier it became known that the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky discussed security in the military and energy spheres with Biden.
