Ugandan and Congolese Defense Ministers completed Thursday, December 9 in Bunia, Ituri, two days of work on the coordination of joint military operations launched since November 30.

Vincent Bamulangaki Ssempijja (Uganda) and Gilbert Kabanda Kurhenga (DRC) were accompanied by senior officers from the two countries as well as parliamentarians who are members of the defense committee of the National Assembly and deputies from North Kivu and Ituri.
It was first a question of limiting the nature of
the collaboration
, reassuring everyone and considering the future together.
The two ministers immediately clarified that their discussions relate not only to operations against the ADF, but also to all other armed groups, militias and terrorist organizations operating along the border separating the two countries and particularly the North. -Kivu and Ituri.
More generally, they undertake as agreed to strengthen bilateral cooperation and formalize all aspects of military cooperation within the framework of general defense agreements.
Vincent Bamulangaki and Gilbert Kabanda Kurhenga also responded to recent fears from NGOs calling for respect for human rights and the protection of civilians during these operations.
Thus, they are committed to activate the mechanisms of control, transparency, and follow-up at the national and international level.
According to the two defense ministers, these operations are an essential approach to achieve lasting peace in the region.
Thus, they call on other stakeholders such as MONUSCO or all the representative sub-regional organizations to support this joint initiative.
