A new 19-second video of the Indian Air Force's Mi-17 V5 helicopter has surfaced moments before it crashed into a hillside, carrying Indian Army Chief of Staff Bipin Rawat.
The video of the crash of the Indian Air Force's MI 17V5 helicopter, apparently filmed by locals in the area, shows a group of people walking on a railway track and looking at the low-flying helicopter.
Soon, the Mi-17 disappeared into the thick cloud, and the helicopter's engine remained silent, which may indicate the accident that claimed the lives of the Chief of Staff, his wife and 11 high-ranking officials and employees.
In the video circulating in the Indian media and spread through social media, the people in the video can be heard saying: "Do you hear the silence and the helicopter stops... What happened, did it crash?"
So far, the authenticity of the video has not been verified as it was posted by locals and passersby.
General Rawat, 63, was on his way to the Defense Services Staff College in Wellington where he was due to give a lecture.
His wife, the head of the Defense Ministry Officers' Wives Welfare Society, accompanied him with senior army officials.
The accident occurred about 10 kilometers from the helipad, where the helicopter was to land.
According to the latest report, the black box of the ill-fated helicopter has been found.
The black box typically provides the conversation and messages exchanged in the cockpit and is a tool for determining the sequence of events during an accident.
Defense Minister Rajnath Singh will brief Parliament on the tragic incident that killed 13 of the 14 people on board, including Chief of Defense Staff Bipin Rawat and his wife, Madulika Rawat.
Videos and photos from the crash site showed debris strewn across a hillside and rescue workers struggling through smoke and fire to find bodies.
The charred bodies were pulled out from under the trees.
