The government has decided to shorten the interval between the second and third doses of the COVID-19 vaccine to three months.

Prime Minister Kim Bu-gyeom at a meeting of the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters presided over at Incheon City Hall today (10th) said, "The government has set an interval so that adults 18 years of age or older can receive the third dose three months after the primary vaccination for quick vaccination. decided to reduce it,” he said.

Up to now, the interval between booster doses for adults aged 18 to 59 years was 5 months and for those over 60 years old, 4 months.

These measures are in accordance with the judgment that special measures are needed to increase the speed of additional vaccination in a situation where the spread of Corona is severe, such as the daily number of confirmed cases exceeds 7,000.

Prime Minister Kim said, "With the number of confirmed cases in the 7,000 range for three days in a row, medical response capacity is rapidly being exhausted."

The number of confirmed cases was 7,175 at the time of the announcement on the 8th, exceeding 7,000 for the first time in a day, and yesterday's announcement also recorded 7,102.

Prime Minister Kim said, "Securing enough beds that are urgently needed day by day is also a fire in the foot," he said.

He continued, "While carrying out the three administrative orders issued so far without any setbacks,Today, we plan to secure 1,700 beds by issuing an additional administrative order targeting general hospitals in non-metropolitan areas.”
