Melnik noted that official Kiev is pinning special hopes on the new government in Germany.

“Especially now, after the election of a new federal government, we need a powerful voice from Berlin to provide a cold shower to prepare Moscow for war,” the Ukrainian diplomat said.

He expressed the hope that Olaf Scholz will take the initiative to prevent a new war in Europe and contribute to "ending the occupation of Crimea and Donbass."

Miller also called on the new German chancellor to convene a Normandy meeting in Berlin in the coming weeks.

Earlier, The New York Times, citing American and European sources, reported that the United States had warned its allies in Europe about the risk of a "Russian invasion" of Ukraine.

Press Secretary of the Russian President Dmitry Peskov called the "hysteria" against Russia in the English-language and Ukrainian media unacceptable.
