President Moon Jae-in attended the 'Democracy Summit' hosted by U.S. President Joe Biden on the night of the 9th, and expressed our will to contribute to the promotion of democracy, the Blue House said.

Blue House spokeswoman Park Kyung-mi said in a written briefing today, "At this summit, which will be held over two days from the 9th to the 10th, President Moon attended the first session of the plenary session in which 12 countries participated, presided over by President Biden as a speaker."

In his remarks on the same day, President Moon said, "Based on our successful experience of achieving democratization and economic development together in Asia, we will actively participate in and contribute to democracy promotion efforts."

President Moon said, "Mankind has achieved prosperity that has never been experienced in history along with democracy, but faces challenges such as populism and extremism, inequality and polarization, fake news, hate and hatred. It is time for discussion.”

"We must firmly guarantee individual freedom and freedom of expression, but we must be able to harmonize with freedom for all, and we must develop the ability to defend democracy from fake news," he said.

President Moon also said, "Corruption is the greatest enemy of democracy." He said, "I will share Korea's anti-corruption policy achievements with the international community, including the Anti-Graft Act, the Conflict of Interest Act, the Public Interest Reporter Protection System, and the Anti-Money Laundering Act."

President Moon continued, "Korea has received a lot of help from the international community in the process of overcoming the ruins of war in half a century, overcoming military dictatorship and authoritarianism, and developing into the most dynamic democracy. I will go,” he said.

"President Moon reaffirmed Korea's status as a leading democracy in Asia through participation in this democracy summit, and showed a strong will to contribute to solidarity and cooperation in the international community to promote democracy," said Spokesperson Park. .

However, President Moon did not mention the main reasons why President Biden convened this meeting, such as human rights in China and the Beijing Olympics.

Although it has responded to the US invitation as an ally, it appears to be unwilling to provoke China.
