A man in Karlstad is suspected of gross complicity in violations of international law. The crimes are said to have taken place in Syria in 2012, and he has now been requested to be detained at Värmland District Court. According to the arrest request, the man previously held a high-ranking position in the Syrian army.
After the crimes were committed, he must, according to the arrest petition, have deserted and clearly taken a stand against the Syrian regime, and sought asylum in Sweden.
The man is suspected for probable cause, which is the higher degree of suspicion.
The case is being investigated at the National Unit against International and Organized Crime.
