December 09, 2021: A 6.1 magnitude earthquake was detected in Kagoshima prefecture in southwest Japan, the latest in a series of more than 200 aftershocks that occurred in less than a week.



According to the National Meteorological Agency, JMA, the epicenter was detected just 14 kilometers deep, on the island of Akuseki, but no tsunami warning was reported and no injuries or damage to buildings were reported.



The superfast train services have been suspended for 15 minutes and then resume operation.



Earthquakes explain seismologists are frequent in the Kagoshima area and in the entire Tokara archipelago.

Between 9 and 30 April of this year, according to local surveys, 265 tremors occurred, with at least 4 of amplitude greater than magnitude 4. Japan, with dozens of active volcanoes, is located on the so-called 'ring of fire 'of the Pacific, where most of the earthquakes and volcanic eruptions of the world are recorded.
