Christer Nilsson, head of the investigation unit at the police's National Operations Department (NOA), recognizes the image of increased concern among witnesses.

- The fear has become greater, he says.

Testifying about serious organized crime has become more dangerous, but the risk for those who testify in less serious cases is unchanged, says the Noa chief.

- When it comes to ordinary crime, we have not noticed that the threats have increased, Nilsson says.

Witnesses play a huge role in preserving a democratic society, the Noah chief believes.

He fears that the growing fear could have serious consequences.

- It is incredibly important that everyone testifies.

I'm worried that people will not be judged in a good way if people do not testify.
