15 June 2017With the arrival of summer and holidays, goodbye to paid roaming.

From today, calls, text messages and data will cost abroad as well as at home for those traveling in the EU.

It is the start of the 'digital revolution' pushed by the European Commission and supported by the European Parliament which now, after years of battles and delays, is finally coming to fruition.

From today, calling, sending text messages and surfing the internet from any of the 28 EU countries (plus, to follow, Norway, Liechtenstein and Iceland, but not in Switzerland) will take place at the same price as in your own, based on the tariff plan or cost. provided by the prepaid card. And, as such, the entire traffic will be accounted for as national, then deducted from your lump sum or credit. There are no time limits, but to avoid abuses such as the use of a foreign economic SIM permanently in a country where prices are higher, checks can be triggered starting at least from the fourth month in which consumption takes place only abroad.

These are some of the innovations in effect from today for travelers to the Old Continent.

   - NAVIGATE WITH YOUR PHONE. Whether you are in the UK or any other European country, you can check Facebook and send emails following your rate plan. If you have, for example, a 1 Giga subscription, and you want to renew it, you can do it at no additional cost even if you are abroad.

- CALL WHILE YOU ARE ABROAD. Previously, you also paid on incoming calls, for the equivalent of 27 cents per minute. Now, if you are in Europe, that won't happen again. But, beware, this surcharge will continue to be valid in other non-European countries.

  - GOODBYE TO THE "SECOND" PHONE. If you travel to Europe you will not need it, unless you have a cheaper rate plan than the operator of a European country that you regularly visit already.

- ON HOLIDAY IN TURKEY OR SWITZERLAND. They are countries that do not belong to the EU, so theoretically roaming will still work. But it is worth asking your operator because many have included these countries in 'free' roaming. It will also be possible to use the mobile phone without roaming in Norway and Liechtenstein while in Great Britain the measure will be valid until March 30, 2019 when Brexit should become operational.

  - BY BOAT IN THE CHANNEL OF THE MANICA. We must be careful because until now they were the prerogative of a company   of Bermuda which offered very high rates.

  - BORDER CROSSING SMS. You will continue to receive an SMS warning of the passage to a foreign country.

- WHAT IF I PHONE A FRIEND ABROAD FROM ITALY? In this case, calls made from your country of residence are not part of roaming. That is to say, a discount will be paid.

Goodbye roaming, how Italian companies behave Italian companies

have also adapted to the new European legislation and from today will no longer apply roaming costs for those traveling to Europe. Some managers have anticipated the news a few weeks ago. And in any case, everyone continues to offer offers even for those traveling to the USA or to other parts of the world that are not Europe.

- TIM. From today it will comply with the "Roam like at home" directive, allowing consumer and business customers in EU countries to be able to use national offers that allow calls, SMS and Internet browsing abroad. However, the company is making other offers available (Travel Pass, or Internet Travel) also in Switzerland, and, for some tariff plans, in the USA as well as in many countries in the rest of the world. So customers don't have to worry about their own level of consumption.

- VODAFONE. Goodbye roaming also for customers, but already from May for consumer subscriptions and the business offer. From tomorrow, the cost of package offers, pay-as-you-go rates and additional calls, SMS and Giga will be for everyone     exactly like in Italy.

- WIND 3. They were the first to adapt to the new rules: Wind abolished roaming costs as early as April 24, 3 did so on May 8. Thanks to the "Easy Europe" offer, in fact, all customers - Wind customers from 24 April and 3 customers from 8 May - can already take advantage of their national offer when they travel to Europe, on holiday or for work. It is therefore possible to check e-mails, use maps, upload photos on social media, call and write messages in all EU countries just like at home, without the need to activate any option and at no additional cost. In detail, the national offers with voice, sms and data traffic included can be used indiscriminately both in Italy and in the European Union. Eg,if a customer is in France and calls a German number, he can take advantage of the thresholds provided by his offer. As regards, on the other hand, pay-per-use offers in the EU, a 'pay per use' rate is applied, in line with the regulations.

  - OTHER MOBILE OPERATORS.

All mobile operators, including Poste Mobile, Fastweb Mobile, Coop Voce, will cancel roaming costs from today.

They will not pay any surcharges if they call or surf the Internet from their mobile phone if they are in a European country.

For other operators, there is still an unknown factor: according to European legislation, in fact, companies with a turnover with losses of more than 3% can ask for a one-year derogation.
