The elderly couple in Nyköping, in their 80s and 85s, received a phone call from someone who claimed to be calling from a debt collection company, for an unpaid bill on a mobile phone.

Then the person said to switch over the call to a bank's security department.

The woman was then persuaded to enter her bank codes in her bank box.

Missing SEK 260,000

The police state that the conversation should have lasted for an hour and a half.

Later, the couple discovered that SEK 260,000 was missing from their account.

The police have now drawn up a report of gross fraud.

Police advice

Due to this, the police want to urge everyone to talk to their older relatives, it is mainly the elderly who are exposed to this type of crime.

Police advice: never follow instructions on logging in to a bank box or bank ID of someone who calls and says they are calling from a bank or other business.

Instead, you should hang up, call your bank on a number you know, and check it all out.

You should also call the police and make a report.
