The United States is destroying the system of international relations based on international law and the central role of the UN, for the sake of creating a zone of its own comfort, in which it "is going to single-handedly dominate."

The official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova wrote about this in her Telegram channel.

“It is for this that the United States is organizing an extra crowd in the form of a“ summit of democracies, ”whose participants will be endowed with the honorary right to serve the interests of the American regime,” the diplomat said.

Thus, Zakharova reacted to the statement by the Assistant to the President of the United States for National Security Jake Sullivan, who said at the online forum of the American publication Defense One that the current structure of international relations led by the UN is gradually becoming a thing of the past.

“I believe that in foreign policy and international relations we have reached the stage when we are no longer talking about a structure created according to ancient canons, about the Parthenon from the UN, the IMF, the World Bank and so on.

We now have a more complex mix of structures, ”Sullivan said.

According to him, this state of affairs suits Washington, allowing the use of "joint power" of the United States and other countries in many different formats, "ultimately ensuring the security and prosperity of the American people."

One of the central strategic ideas of the Biden administration is that over time, "multilateralism should become more flexible, adaptive, and include a whole network of alliances, partnerships and institutions," added Sullivan.

In this context, he referred to the Washington-sponsored Online Summit for Democracy, which is scheduled for December 9-10.

Recall that the meeting, to which the United States has invited more than 100 countries and territories, as well as leaders of "various democratic countries of the world", will be held in a virtual format.

Russia, China, most of the states of the Middle East and a number of other countries do not appear on this list.

According to US President Joe Biden, the goal of the summit is "to set a positive agenda for democratic renewal around the world."

Moscow believes that under this pretext Washington is going to fight Russia, China and other countries that have strategic independence from the West.

"Democratic master class"

In early December, the former NSA and CIA director, retired General Michael Hayden, published an article on a website specializing in national security issues on the eve of the summit in support of democracy, entitled "My Concern about America."

According to Hayden, American society is in a state of division.

In particular, he writes that in the last presidential election in the United States "Biden won, but after more than a year, many still do not believe in it."

He also recalls clashes between police and protesters in the United States, the Capitol Hill riot, when Trump supporters broke into Congress on January 6 in disagreement with the presidential election, electoral fraud and the Black Lives Matter movement.

According to Maria Zakharova, spokesman for the Russian Foreign Ministry, in her article Hayden refers to the current research data of American think tanks and NGOs, "which in this case can hardly be suspected of working for Moscow."

"Michael Hayden lists the painful topics of American society, recognizing that there is something to think about: in the United States objectively there are problems associated with manifestations of police arbitrariness, the depravity of the penitentiary system and imperfect legislation, the opacity of the electoral process, illegal migration and social inequality," she wrote Zakharova in his Telegram channel.

As an official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry said, Hayden considers the root of the troubles a deep split in American society, in particular between Republicans and Democrats, on a large number of issues, including an assessment of the events in American history and attitudes towards political elites.

In addition, according to her, “polls of the Pew Research Center, also located in the American capital, showed that 72% of respondents believe that although the United States was once a good example to follow, it has not been so recently.

At the same time, 8% believe that the United States has never been a "beacon" of democracy at all.

Total - 80% ".

She also noted that European experts were even more straightforward in their assessments.

For example, the Stockholm Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance this year ranked the United States as a country deviating from the democratic path of development.

Zakharova stressed that, given all these difficulties within the United States, it is “somehow even inappropriate to represent the United States as the world leader in protecting democracy in such conditions.

“What are the American authorities doing to improve the situation at home?

Initiating discussions, conducting polls, implementing reforms?

No.

Instead, they are spamming the world with invitations to a democratic workshop - the "summit of democracies," she said.

"Washington really doesn't like it"

As noted by Nikita Danyuk, deputy director of the RUDN Institute for Strategic Studies and Forecasts, member of the Public Chamber of Russia, despite all its internal problems, the United States is trying to devalue the role of the UN and regain lost leadership at the expense of the summit in support of democracy.

“Washington really doesn’t like the fact that there is such an institution as the UN, and within its framework, the Security Council, in which the RF and the PRC have the right of veto.

After all, the White House is used to presenting its positions as the most correct by force, without discussion or compromise.

Biden will use the summit in support of democracy as some kind of proof that the United States has allegedly regained its role as the leader of the democratic world, "the expert said in an interview with RT.

According to Danyuk, the US position on the role of the UN in the system of international relations proves once again that the United States is aimed at the collapse of all existing international norms.

"The American side is purposefully and consistently withdrawing from all kinds of international institutions and agreements that contribute to maintaining stability in the world," he recalled.

In turn, the expert of the International Institute for Humanitarian and Political Research, Vladimir Bruter, drew attention to the fact that against the background of the US accusations against the Russian Federation and the PRC because of their alleged attempts to reconsider the existing world order, Sullivan's words about the UN's retreat into the background and the role in this process The United States is demonstrating "Washington's double standards."

“The Assistant to the President for National Security is now directly saying that the United States is not satisfied with the current world order and they would like to destroy it.

And Russia and China are invited to do nothing and silently watch what is happening, "the analyst said in a commentary on RT.

According to Danyuk, Washington wants to turn the summit in support of democracy into a kind of analogue of the UN.

“The White House hopes that on the basis of this event it will be able to create such an alternative platform, which would be fully controlled and loyal to the United States, where they could fully implement their agenda.

However, as much as Washington wishes it, a summit in support of democracy will never become a new UN, ”the analyst is sure.

Attempts by the United States to regain its leading position in the world and become a defender of democracy "look simply ridiculous" given how many problems have accumulated within the United States itself, Danyuk said.

“The scandalous story with the presidential elections and other difficulties of this country indicate that there is no democracy left in the United States, but there is a dictatorship of a minority, a left-liberal agenda and an anti-Russian consensus.

And based on this, Washington is trying to impose its "values" on everyone else, "the expert said.

Danyuk is also convinced that the summit in support of democracy will not be able to solve the priority tasks of Washington to return the US leadership and oppose independent countries, including the Russian Federation and the PRC.

“Even within the framework of other less cumbersome mechanisms and international institutions, it is very difficult to develop a unified position, not to mention more than a hundred scattered countries of the world that cannot agree with each other,” Danyuk said.

According to Vladimir Bruter, that consolidated democratic world, the image of which the United States is so desperately trying to create, does not really exist.

“This is the role of the United States in the world - to attract other countries to a kind of democratic cult, under which there is no real justification,” the expert summed up.
