Under increasing pressure from the fifth wave of Covid-19, the regional health agencies (ARS) of Ile-de-France, Occitanie, Pays de la Loire and Bourgogne-Franche-Comté announced on Wednesday the triggering of the "white plan "in all their hospitals and clinics. But what does this device actually allow? Example in Occitanie, at Toulouse University Hospital.

The white plan is now activated regionally.

This is the case in Ile-de-France, Bourgogne-Franche-Comté, Pays de la Loire, the Paca region or even Occitanie.

On Wednesday, more than 61,000 new cases were recorded in France in 24 hours.

The idea is therefore to allow hospitals and clinics to anticipate the effects of this fifth wave of Covid-19.

And this is particularly the case at the Toulouse University Hospital, where we are trying to stem the epidemic.

Regional regulation

Initially, the triggering of the white plan will allow the opening of new beds.

In this Toulouse establishment, the crisis units to take stock of needs several times a week will also be reactivated.

But that's not all.

This system will also make it possible to call in reinforcements, students or retirees and, if necessary, to deprogram interventions.

And for the head of the anesthesia-intensive care unit, Professor Vincent Minville, it is also the possibility of distributing patients between establishments in the region.

"On the CHU, we are not yet overloaded. We are anticipating this possibility of increasing the load, but for the moment we are mainly there in regional regulation so that each establishment does not have significant pressure to a moment T ", he explains.

Volunteering for caregivers

"In our country, 90% of the patients who are in intensive care are unvaccinated patients. It is a bit that which discourages us. We are tired and we are going to treat the population, but this overload of work, even if it would not have could not have been completely avoided, could have been greatly reduced ", regrets the specialist.

And this is the reason why the Toulouse University Hospital does not plan to bring back staff from leave, as the white plan allows.

He intends to rely more on overtime, based on voluntary service.
