The United Arab Emirates University registered a patent for an electric muzzle to kill viruses, coinciding with the outbreak of the new Corona virus, which demonstrated the importance of preventive protection tools such as protective clothing and face masks, and other protective equipment that can provide the necessary protection for society from exposure to large proportions.

The research team, led by Associate Professor at the Faculty of Engineering, Dr. Mahmoud Al-Ahmad, developed an electric mask that can get rid of viruses and destroy them partially or completely, and the idea of the device can be reset to work with any type of protective clothing.

This device has two flexible graphene electrodes connected to a power source such as a battery (which provides low direct current at low voltage) for operation.

The electrodes are staggered to allow equal spacing.

This overlapping nature provides an area larger enough to allow sufficient airflow to allow the user to breathe, and on the other hand, these spaces allow for the flow of an electric field that kills viruses on contact.

The team was also able to develop other uses for the device to develop the vaccine by applying an alternating current overlaid with direct stimulation, which would weaken the effect of virus infection and the strength of its transmissibility.

Thus, a vaccine is being developed against viruses of the same type.

The associate deputy for scientific research at the university, Dr. Ahmed Ali Murad, confirmed that the university supports and encourages innovation in various fields. Through the Patent and Intellectual Property Unit of the office, the university supports the ideas of researchers and faculty members, and also contributes to preserving and registering these ideas in order to preserve the rights of the researcher. And the university through an electronic system that allows the researcher to submit the idea and review it scientifically and legally, through a law firm, and obtain the idea of the patent within a period of up to seven months.
