American pharmaceutical company Pfizer and Germany's Biontech announced that they could neutralize Omicron with a third dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.

According to Reuters, the companies said in a joint statement that the third dose of the vaccine had a 25-fold increase in neutralizing antibodies to the Omicron mutation compared to the second dose.

Omicron mutation significantly reduces the neutralizing antibody effect of the second dose of vaccine, but after the third dose, the preventive effect was similar to that of the second dose against COVID-19 before the mutation.

"It is clear that the third dose of the vaccine improves protection," said Pfizer CEO Albert Bulla.

In addition, it was revealed that even in the case of the second inoculation, the severe preventive effect against Omicron mutation was maintained to a large extent.
