Five history students from the University of Lorraine were arrested and interviewed by the police on Thursday, December 2.

They are suspected of having made racist, anti-Semitic and homophobic remarks, reveals France Bleu Lorraine Nord.

A complaint was lodged by the establishment at the beginning of December following several reports.

The suspects are said to be students on the Saulcy campus in Metz (Moselle).

An investigation was opened to try to determine if other sectors are concerned.

These comments were said to have been made in amphitheatres, but also on social networks on a regular basis, according to witnesses.

Internal investigation

The president of the University of Lorraine announced that an internal investigation would be launched and that the disciplinary commission would be seized.

"These are harsh words: racist insults, calls for action against a certain number of students, on the basis of religion or another racism, calls for violence, or crimes, against them", a- he confided to our colleagues.
