China News Agency, Berlin, December 8th (Reporter Peng Dawei) Gu Xuewu, a well-known German international relations scholar, lifelong professor of political science and international relations at the University of Bonn and director of the Center for Global Studies, told a reporter from China News Agency on the 7th that Germany is about to officially rule The three political parties have made it clear in the joint governance agreement that they have formally signed that they will continue to promote the German-Chinese government consultation mechanism, and it is expected that Germany and China will continue to maintain pragmatic cooperation in the future.

The new German federal government, governed by the Social Democratic Party, the Green Party and the Liberal Democratic Party, will be sworn in on the 8th.

Since this is Germany's first three-party coalition government at the federal level since 1949, how it will affect Germany's internal and external policies has attracted much attention from the outside world.

On the 7th, Gu Xuewu answered questions from reporters of China News Agency when attending the 11th "Sino-German Economic Cooperation Theme Salon" jointly organized by the Economic and Commercial Office of the Chinese Embassy in Germany and the Chinese Chamber of Commerce in Germany.

Talking about the expectations of the new German government’s China policy, Gu Xuewu believes that the three parties’ expressions regarding China’s policy in the joint governance agreement that have been formally signed are moderate, especially that they clearly stated that they will continue to promote the German-Chinese government consultation mechanism.

He said, “This government will continue to promote the measures of the German and Chinese governments, which is very gratifying. This is a very important institutionalized product in EU-China relations. The promotion of this mechanism means continuing to follow the path of pragmatic cooperation with China. ."

According to Gu Xuewu’s observation, recent actions have shown that the most likely trend of the new German government, especially when the German Chancellery is leading foreign policy, is that Germany and China will continue to maintain a kind of pragmatic cooperation.

He also reminded that noise is inevitable, "There may be a running-in period of six months to a year or so in the future, and many things may enter a stable development after a learning process."

Regarding the prospects of bilateral education and scientific research cooperation and people-to-people exchanges, Gu Xuewu suggested that the governments of Germany and China may use the existing government consultation mechanism of both sides to reach framework results in the people-to-people exchange section, paving the way for cooperation in related fields.
