Several months after the Taliban seized power, thousands of Afghan citizens who used to work for the German army, the German embassy or other institutions are still waiting to leave the country for Germany, Funke Media Group reported yesterday, citing the Interior Ministry.

And the ministry's response to an investigation by the Left Party in the Bundestag stated that Germany had accepted applications from about 25,000 Afghans who wanted to be resettled.

Of these, 7,033 people have managed to move to Germany so far.

The figures indicated that the German authorities agreed to accept 24,556 people from Afghanistan during the period from May 15 to November 26.

So far, 1,319 local employees and 5,711 family members have come to Germany.

The former German chancellor, Angela Merkel, seemed to be not as welcoming as she was at the time of receiving Syrian refugees in 2015;

She saw that it is better to receive Afghans in the neighboring countries of Afghanistan.

She called on the international community to increase aid to these countries to prevent those fleeing from traveling to Europe, according to what the Deutsche Welle radio website quoted participants in a meeting of the Presidium of her Christian Democratic Party (CDP) a few weeks ago.

Note that Germany, France and the United States welcomed the Afghans who cooperated with their forces in Afghanistan, and who they described as human rights defenders.

Thousands of employees, drivers and translators, who worked with Western governments fear for their lives, while politicians from many European countries have repeatedly raised their fears of reviving the 2015 refugee crisis, and causing “another 2015”, by noting that openness is a source of A widespread concern for many in Europe, including Germany.
