08 December 2021 Denmark will again impose restrictions aimed at curbing the increase in Covid infections and containing the Omicron variant.

This was announced by Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen at a press conference.

The new restrictions include the early closure of primary schools, with the extension of the holidays, for the end of year holidays, while from Friday restaurants and bars will have to close by midnight.

Danes are advised to work from home and to cancel aggregation moments such as Christmas holidays.

"We still believe it is possible to keep large parts of society open, thanks to the great support for vaccines," he added.

"We know how important school attendance is for the well-being of children and young people. For this we add a few days to the Christmas holidays, before and after, but the plan is not to have another long closure", he assured.

Frederiksen said the government would do whatever it could to avoid new restrictions, but the country has seen a dramatic leap in new cases in recent weeks.
